Pavion and our family of companies are seeking a talented and motivated Application Engineer II to join our security business unit.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Review project design documents, submittals, and programming sheets provided by Project Managers.
- Validate device counts, controller layouts, and network architecture before programming begins.
- Provide feedback to design teams to optimize system performance and reduce commissioning risks.
- Develop and maintain programming standards (naming conventions, credential formats, partitioning rules, alarm priorities, etc.).
- Create standard commissioning checklists, test scripts, and quality control procedures.
- Ensure all programming follows client requirements, compliance codes, and Pavion best practices.
- Design and document system integration workflows (access control, VMS, intrusion, intercom).
- Engineer custom integrations, scripts, or API-level connections where manufacturer tools fall short.
- Evaluate new technology releases and recommend adoption to client portfolio.
- Serve as the SME (Subject Matter Expert) on programming and commissioning for all regional projects.
- Mentor and guide field technicians on advanced programming techniques.
- Assist project managers with scope definition and estimating programming hours.
- Lead client workshops to define programming requirements (access levels, schedules, credential structures).
- Engineer custom reports, dashboards, and workflows tailored to client needs.
- Act as commissioning lead during client acceptance testing, ensuring design intent is met.
- Work with manufacturers and distributors to test new hardware/software releases.
- Engineer process improvements to reduce commissioning time and errors.
- Develop reusable programming templates to standardize across multiple campuses/projects.
Basic Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge of network communications and system architecture
- Minimum 3+ years of installation, design, and/or Project Management experience of Card Access, IP Video, Intercom, and Intrusion systems.
- Proven experience with commissioning/programming of complex/integrated security systems
- Ability to read and interpret programming sheets, drawings, and specifications
- Proficiency in MS Office and common programming/configuration tools
- Strong troubleshooting skills and analytical problem-solving ability
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and adapt quickly to new technologies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in data center or hyperscale environments
- Experience with scripting, database management, or API integrations
- Advanced manufacturer certifications (Lenel, Axis, Commend, Traka, etc.)
- Knowledge of IT network design, VLANs, and server configurations
- Ability to mentor and train junior technicians
