The Opportunity
Process Control Systems Engineer at a Growth-Oriented Energy Company
Reporting to the Director of Operational Technology
Oversee the design, configuration, and lifecycle management of the industrial process control systems that automate and monitor our refinery and terminal operations
Play a key role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and efficiency of our operations
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve operational excellence
Key activities include:
- Design, configure, administer, and maintain our industrial control systems, including:
- ABB Symphony Plus Distributed Control System (DCS)
- ABB Ability 800xA Safety Instrumented System
- Varec Fuels Manager Inventory Management System
- TopTech TMS Terminal Management System
- Ensure all industrial control systems adhere to company policies, industry standards and regulatory requirements, including cybersecurity protocols.
- Lead projects to upgrade, expand, and integrate control systems to support Par Pacific's vision and goals.
- Provide expert-level support for control system hardware and software including problem diagnosis, unscheduled maintenance repairs, planned preventative maintenance, and system upgrades.
- Provide field support to troubleshoot communication and system integration issues
- Program DCS base control loop configuration, tuning, and alarm setpoints.
- Work closely with IT, operations, maintenance, and engineering to manage and optimize virtualized computing environment, industrial networking, HMIs, and field equipment performance.
- Provide training and mentorship to technical, operations, and maintenance staff on process control technologies and best practices.

Qualifications
To meet the basic qualifications for employment, you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship. Additional Qualifications Include:
- Technical degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field strongly preferred.
- Other equivalent degree or relevant experience will be considered.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience with DCS configuration, programming, and optimization.
- Foundation in industrial communications, administration, and cybersecurity best practices for control systems.
- Working knowledge of industrial and process safety regulations.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and the ability to lead technical initiatives in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to periodically provide off-hours support and respond to callouts.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Familiarity with ABB Symphony Plus DCS and Ability 800xA systems.
- Experience in refining, chemical processing, or other manufacturing industries.
- Experience complying with Washington Department of Homeland Security (DOHS) or CAL Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations.
