Primary Purpose

Responsible for the daily management of assigned unit to include staff supervision and development, planning, budget, quality, and facility operations and coordinating patient services to ensure high quality patient care and optimal outcomes.

Minimum Specifications

Education

- Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.

Experience

- Must have four years of professional nursing experience.

- For the following cost center: 87780 - Must have Peritoneal Dialysis experience within the last 2 years prior to hire - Must be familiar with CMS and Texas Administrative Codes regarding ESRD and Dialysis regulations

Certification/Registration/Licensure

- Must have current, valid RN license or temporary RN license from the Texas Board of Nursing, or valid Compact RN license

- Must have current healthcare provider CPR course completion card from one of the following:

  • American Heart Association
  • American Red Cross
  • Military Training Network

- For the following cost centers: 70440, 71010, 60080

- Must have current Advanced Life Support (ALS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification on hire or placement in the role. Certification must be from one of the following:

- American Heart Association

- American Red Cross

- Military Training Network.

- Must have certification in Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum (TNCC) or Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN)

- Must maintain an instructor status in ACLS or TNCC or ATCN. Additionally, must become an instructor in either ATCN or TNCC within one year of hire or placement in the role. - Must have and maintain a Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) or Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) certification or Trauma Certified Registered Nurse (TCRN) - For the following cost centers: 60610, 62340, 60593 - Must have SAMA certification, levels 1-4 before first clinical orientation shift and no later than 30 days upon hire or placement in the role. - For the following cost centers: 62290 - Must have current Advanced Life Support (ALS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification on hire or placement in the role. Current incumbents will have 30 days from 12/11/2024 attain the certification. Certification must be from one of the following:

- Provides care to assigned patient population in accordance with the current State of Texas Nurse Practice Act, established protocols, multidisciplinary plan of care, and clinical area specific standards.

- Must demonstrate advanced knowledge of assigned department operations including policies, personnel and budget management.

- Must have effective verbal and written communication skills in working with a diverse population of physicians, patients, nursing staff, management and administration.

- Trauma Managers:

- Provides care to assigned patient population in accordance with the current State of Texas Nurse Practice Act, established protocols, multidisciplinary plan of care, and clinical area specific standards.

- Must be able to demonstrate an expert knowledge of all phases of trauma care to include prevention, pre-hospital care, resuscitation, stabilization, supportive care, rehabilitation, organ/tissue routine inquiry, and disaster management.

- Must have highly effective written and verbal communication skills.

- Must be capable of being on-call in a fast-paced environment and have the ability to respond back to the facility within one hour.

- Must be able to complete statistical reports, data analysis, and risk adjustment analysis.

- Must have advanced pc skills in MSWord, Excel, and other programs to assist with reports.

- Must be able to motivate and train assigned staff. - Must demonstrate patient centered/patient valued behaviors.

Responsibilities

1. Responsible for managing daily unit activities to ensure high quality patient care and optimal outcomes. Communicates with physicians, social work and other department staff to promote integrated, effective care. Serves as patient advocate, follows up on patient care issues and outcomes, oversees/arranges discharge support. Documents and supervises unit/patient information including charts, surveys, reports, research, correspondence, statistics and quarterly reports to ensure efficient, accurate data.

2. Selects, trains, supervises, motivates and evaluates assigned staff. Assesses patient needs and staff capabilities, scheduling staff to ensure maximum utilization of individual and group capabilities, while providing optimal service to internal and external customers. Ensures assigned staff receive opportunities to further their knowledge. Serves as a role model and resource. Evaluates staff competencies and delegates tasks effectively. Directs staff meetings, interviews, trains, counsels and provides other personnel activities to ensure that clinical activities meet department and Parkland goals and mission objectives.

3. Serves as a clinical resource, maintains skills and promotes staff development. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements and trends in the specialty area by attending seminars or workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations and maintaining Texas RN licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices. Serves as an educational resource for patients, families and Parkland staff. Responsible for maintaining Nursing Standards and Practices on the unit.
