EMS Assistant Chief Of Operations

The EMS Assistant Chief of Operations works under the direction of the EMS Director and EMS Deputy Chief. The EMS Assistant Chief of Operations is responsible for:

  • Day to day oversight and management of EMS operations, including fleet and equipment management programs and administrative duties as assigned;
  • Direct operational oversight and observation in the provision of emergency medical care in the field;
  • The identification of individual and system-wide training needs and the education and/or remediation required to improve the quality of clinical services;
  • Working closely with EMS Director and Deputy Chief, Medical Director, Shift Lieutenants and field personnel to monitor daily departmental / system activity;
  • Providing clinical support as needed to meet department volume and acuity;
  • Ensuring department field providers are meeting established KPI's, competencies, quality metrics and other established operational expectations; and
  • Coordinating and overseeing department Field Training and Education Program.

The EMS Assistant Chief of Operations must provide strategic supportive leadership and strong collaborative management skills to support and ensure the success of the following programs:

  • The efficient delivery of quality emergency and non-emergency medical services to the community;
  • The continued development and implementation of a critical care program tailored to meet regional needs;
  • The development and implementation of a community based mobile integrated healthcare/paramedicine outreach program that evolves with the unique requirements of the community;
  • The seamless integration of the EMS department and its programs into the organization's goal of delivering exceptional patient care and customer service in a fiscally responsible manner;
  • The strategic growth of the department, capitalizing on the internal strengths of its members and programs; and
  • Future initiatives to expand service capability, infrastructure, and viability.

This is an exempt, supervisory position with a work schedule of a minimum 40 hours per week, requiring weekends, holidays, and on-call hours.

Qualifications:

  • Colorado Paramedic certification required; Colorado Critical Care Endorsement or RN preferred.
  • National Registry Paramedic certification.
  • Current AHA BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
  • ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, and 800 (or ability to obtain within 12 months).
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive EMS experience, including supervisory or leadership roles.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
