Senior Electronics Engineering Technician

Senior Electronics Engineering Technicians use knowledge of basic electricity and electronics theory to design, develop, test, install, operate, maintain, and enhance electronic systems. The work requires (1) the knowledge of the techniques and theories of electronics such as knowledge of basic electricity and electronic theory, algebra, and elementary physics and (2) knowledge of the capabilities, limitations, operations, design characteristics, and functional use of a variety of types and models of electronic equipment, systems, and software.

Such knowledge is related to but less than a full professional knowledge of electronics engineering. This position backs up the Supervisory Electronics Engineering Technician during his/her leave acting as the day to day supervisor for all field office staff.

Essential Functions: (The functions listed are characteristic of the type and level of work associated with this group and pay band. They are not all-inclusive. Individual positions may perform some or all, as well as other similar work.)

For the PIT Tag Interrogation System:

  • Monitor according to Standard Operating Procedures the system's operation
  • Design, build and install PIT tag antennas and detection
  • Perform scheduled routine maintenance according to Standard Operating
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and solve problems in the system in a timely manner via remote telecommunications network or in the field, as required.
  • Manage data collection Install memory, disk drives, operating systems, modem and networking protocols, and customer interrogation software.
  • Manage Unix server Install operating system, custom software configuration, and networking software services.
  • Supervise PSMFC contractors in installation of new or modified system
  • Supervise PSMFC employees during the Supervisory Electronics Engineering Technician's
  • Has the ability to train other employees in technical
  • Acts as a technical resource to the PIT Tag Research Community.

For Remotely Operated Vehicle systems:

  • Operate, service, troubleshoot, and maintain project ROVs, navigational equipment, associated hardware, and navigational
  • Test, calibrate, and integrate new technologies as new hardware and software is
  • Serve, as necessary, as ROV pilot, navigator, and/or video digital data recorder during or after at-sea operations.
