Manufacturing Engineering Intern

Rapiscan, an OSI Systems Company is seeking a Manufacturing Engineering Intern, based out of Billerica, MA.

This role works closely with Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and Quality to identify and alleviate obstacles impacting Production. You will use and grow your technical skills, you will define and implement process improvements, you will generate and improve product documentation, develop fixtures, work with suppliers, and work on cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Reduce obstacles affecting Production's ability to maintain schedules
  • Take full 'cradle to grave' ownership for tasks assigned, for defects (Non-Conformances) found in Mfg. and Test and for any projects assigned
  • Understand the requirements and process to effectively transition design changes, new designs, or deviations into production
  • Initiate ECRs (Engineering Change Requests), drive and review resulting ECO's as required to ensure design changes are effectively identified, integrated, and properly documented
  • Ability to understand key deliverables and demonstrated ability to manage multiple task/efforts at any given time
  • Represent Manufacturing on cross-functional project teams as needed
  • Assists in the manufacturing launch of new/revised products.
  • Create/Improve designs and supporting documentation for production in collaboration with Engineering when required
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, manage, and report on task and project progress
  • Improve manufacturing processes by identifying and initiating process improvements for quality and efficiency.
  • Manage manufacturing related projects and coordinate activities with various internal and external suppliers
  • Designs, develops and tests and/or sources and cost-justifies various tools, machinery and equipment for recommended manufacturing methods as needed
  • Performs product/process analysis for cost reduction, quality improvement, and improved efficiency.
  • Reduce defects and cycle times.
  • Advocate for, and ensure results and solutions achieve required quality levels, reliability, and consistency.
  • Duties may be modified or assigned at any time to meet the needs of the business.

Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor or Master of Science program in Engineering (Preferably Mechanical, Electrical, or Manufacturing Engineering).
  • During the summer of 2025 must reside within daily commuting distance of the site.
  • Must be able to commit to a 10-week internship period starting in May or June 2025.
  • Must have experience with Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (or equivalent version such as Google)
  • Familiar with machine shop and drafting practices.

The pay range above represents annual base salary only. Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as your job level, geographic location, date of hire, experience, job-related knowledge and skills, and education in conjunction with market and business considerations.

Base salary is one component of your total rewards package.
