Ornua is a dairy co-operative which sells dairy products on behalf of its members, Ireland's dairy processors and, in turn, Irish dairy farmers. Position Summary

The Sr. Project Engineer is responsible for engineering the operations processes in multiple fast-paced food manufacturing environments. We offer hands-on engineering challenges for qualified candidates. Potential candidate will oversee the collection and dissemination of data to outside resources to design and implement automation opportunities and develop Capex plans to support the introduction of this technology in the facilities.

Essential Job Functions

  • Demonstrates complete understanding of a wide application of technical principles, theories and concepts in a manufacturing process technology – has general knowledge of other processes technologies and provides technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems
  • Work with supporting departments to create accurate project specifications
  • Performs research on technology and equipment to improve process quality, yield and cost
  • Develop Capital expenditure proposals for budget submission and justify the requested spend
  • Develop and control all facility and equipment drawings
  • Utilize project management skills to drive project completion on time and within budget
  • Specify maintenance and calibration requirements for new technologies and assist in writing standard operating procedures
  • Provides technical support for continuous improvement efforts participating in root cause analysis
  • Work with New Product Development Team – assess and provide input to projects being considered for manufacturing, ensuring the introduction of a capable and efficient operation
  • Support company goals and objectives, policies and procedures, GMP and FDA regulations by working within and including pre-production and post-production compliance in coordination with document control, regulatory, quality and food safety compliance requirements
  • May be required to participate in Lean Six Sigma/Continuous Improvement Initiatives
  • Control and report on data in support of corporate sustainability program

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related Technical/Science field
  • 5+ years of experience in design engineering, process engineering and/or packaging engineering, preferably in food manufacturing or equivalent combination of education and experience in a regulated industry
  • Valid driver's license

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities/Competencies Needed to Perform This Job Successfully

  • Mechanical aptitude and strong problem solving and troubleshooting ability
  • Automation related experience involving robotics Skilled in Computerized Modeling Software Eg. AutoCAD, Solidworks, ProE
  • Structure and manage technology development projects
  • Excellent verbal, analytical, communication skills with strong attention to detail
  • Excellent people skills with ability to represent company in an upbeat and professional manner
  • Ability to multi-task effectively, be self-motivated, dependable, and a team player
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Lean Six Sigma/Continuous Improvement Concepts
  • Understanding of Tableau, Minitab, or other data analysis tools
  • Understanding HACCP principles
  • Supports a safe work environment

  • Sit in a stationary position up to 80% of workday
  • Walk occasionally
  • Use hands/fingers to handle or feel, operate, activate, use, prepare office related items
  • Constantly operates a computer, phone, and other office machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, computer printer, etc
  • Climb stairs/ladders
  • Communicate verbally with employees and customers
  • Vision requirements include reading computer screens, identifying colors, and anticipating employees and visitors
  • Ability to lift and carry office related items up to 25 pounds as needed in the office (supplies)
  • Works in general office conditions regularly
  • May be exposed to general manufacturing operations requiring personal protective equipment such as uniform, bump cap, safety glasses and hearing protection
