NWREC Orchard Crops Student Assistant

This recruitment will be used to fill up to five part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) student technical positions for the OSU-North Willamette Research Center at Oregon State University (OSU). Positions are located at the North Willamette Research and Extension Center (NWREC), Oregon State University in Aurora, Oregon. The Orchard Crops Research program is recruiting students who will assist the program with a variety of tasks.

100% of duties will consist of mowing, pruning, planting, hoeing or weed pulling, checking insect traps, conducting insect sampling, analyzing samples under the microscope for mites and insect damage, and collecting and recording data.

Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study; must meet academic standing requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment; must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard. Perform assigned tasks without close supervision. Capable of working outside and standing/walking for extended periods of time. Ability to lift 25 lbs. Students who are under 18 years old are required to have passed a tractor safety certification class prior to operating a tractor. Attention to detail. Maintain a positive and collegial attitude.

Occasionally we ask that students stay longer to finish a task, but work will not exceed 40 hours/week during the summer and 20 hours/week while school is in session. Outdoor work is expected to be performed in all weather conditions.
