Head-up Display Program Chief Engineer

Collins Aerospace is seeking a Head-up Display Program Chief Engineer (PCE) for our Head-up Display Engineering team in Wilsonville, OR. In this role you will lead a cross functional team of engineers in the execution of development and qualification efforts for various Head-up Display hardware and/or software development programs. In the project management role, both breadth and depth of technical experience are essential. The position will be a hybrid role, with regular onsite presence required. Relocation assistance is available.

What You Will Do:

  • The Program Chief Engineer works with Program Managers, Engineering managers, and engineering leads along with other functions to develop the program execution plan (schedule, budget and staffing) for complex projects.
  • The PCE has primary accountability for meeting technical requirements and scope for the program, including engineering costs and schedule commitments, and serves as the primary technical execution interface.
  • The PCE leads a cross functional matrixed team of engineers through product development per the RTX lifecycle engineering process to develop new product or upgrades for Head up Display hardware and or software or associated products for a wide range of customers.
  • Ensure overall Engineering execution within the program, having decision authority over Engineering activities and accountability for following policy and process.
  • Conduct Engineering Bid Reviews and Engineering Program Reviews at appropriate levels.
  • Provide oversight and review all program metrics for engineering.
  • Conduct and oversee trade studies, using data-driven analysis to guide decisions and optimize outcomes.
  • Oversee and manage engineering Risks and Opportunities across the program, leveraging the enterprise to mitigate key risks and capture opportunities.
  • Collaborate across the integrated project team (engineering, program management, operations, finance, contracts, business development) to achieve program objectives, managing the engineering bid and planning process, developing strategic roadmaps, and driving predictable program performance.
  • Drive design-to-cost (DTC) and Design for Manufacturing initiatives, balancing performance, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Travel up to 10% as required to support program execution and team coordination.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience.
  • Working knowledge of multiple engineering disciplines with a strong focus on communications systems development.
  • Working knowledge of Earned Value Management System (EVMS).
  • Experience in all phases of development program lifecycle.
  • Experience in Risk and Opportunity management.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with multidisciplinary teams of system design professionals including systems, electrical, mechanical, software.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Proven Project Engineering or comparable technical field.
  • Strong systems or requirement compliance background.
  • Program Management Skills like Integrated Master Schedule Development, Earned Value Experience, Agile or Scrum, DevSecOps development methodologies, etc.
  • Aerospace and aircraft experience, avionics equipment and design experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a development team through transition to production.
  • Certification experience including working with FAA, EASA, and designated representatives is a plus.

The salary range for this role is 101,000 USD - 203,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
