Facilities Engineer Apprentice

Providence St. Vincent's Hospital is seeking a motivated and reliable Stationary Engineer Apprentice to join our facilities team. In this role, you will enter a structured four-year apprenticeship program that combines on-the-job training with classroom instruction to prepare you for a career as a Stationary Engineer with a Limited Maintenance Electrical License.

About the program:

This is a registered apprenticeship that focuses on how to operate, maintain, and repair complex mechanical and electrical systems, perform regulatory inspections while providing required documentation, and respond to emergency situations related to building systems. Structured training: Receive 8,000 hours of on-the-job training with technical classroom instruction through Portland Community College.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity.
  • Basic understanding of math, science, and computer skills.
  • Excellent work ethic and a desire to learn a skilled trade.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, which may include shifts, weekends, and holidays, as facilities operate 24/7.

Required Qualifications:

  • Enrollment in an approved building engineer apprenticeship program within 90 days of hire.
  • Upon request: Driving may be necessary as part of this role. Caregivers are required to comply with all state laws and requirements for driving. Caregivers will be expected to provide proof of driver license and auto insurance upon request. See policy for additional information.
