The Lincoln County Sheriff's Department is looking to add a Community Services Deputy to their team to assist with their ongoing commitment to serve our community. This position is responsible for proactively enforcing a variety of County code including Short Term Rentals and ordinance violations. This requires responding to citizen calls for service, deputy-initiated activity, handling disputes, conducting investigations, civil service, abandoned vehicles, and courtroom testimony. The work is performed in a combined work environment but primarily in a vehicle and secondarily in an office. The person in this role will have a high level of public contact under stressful situations in the community. This position is responsible for duties that do not require certification by the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST). The salary range is $26.24 - $35.28 per hour. Essential functions/major responsibilities include responding to citizen complaints about violations and works with citizens to resolve complaints, performing field investigations and inspections to ascertain whether land use, nuisance abatement, building inspection, engineering, noise, noxious vegetation, or other ordinances are being violated, preparing correspondence and documentation of specific violations by researching building and planning records, assessor records, DMV records, previous enforcement actions, and case file information, and providing information in oral and written form on Lincoln County ordinances and regulations to the general public at community meetings and to other agencies including Circuit Court.
Typical qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, one year experience involving land use regulations and intensive public contact, and an Oregon Driver's License required within 30 days of hire. Knowledge of Lincoln County codes and ordinances, laws relating to civil process, and laws related to abandoned vehicles are also required. Skills include being trained and certified to handle and use Conducted Energy Device (Taser) in a safe manner, investigating, preparing, and preserving evidence and report records, interacting with others and making fast and accurate judgment calls when necessary, conveying information, ideas, and facts both orally and in writing to supervisors, colleagues, and individuals, inside and outside the county, using language and a format the audience will best understand, utilizing computers and other technology to communicate in written and verbal forms, effectively relating well with others, including supervisors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the county, exhibiting a professional manner in dealing with others and working to maintain constructive working relationships, and taking personal responsibility for the quality and timeliness of work.
