Description and Responsibilities

Flexible Support Services are designed to assist youth between the ages of 6 and 22 and their families who live in Central MA. The overall goal is to assist children and their family members to develop skills, strategies and supports to sustain the child in the family's natural environment and to help the child successfully function in the community. This program supports each child's ongoing development of age-appropriate social, emotional, academic and pre-work skills. Services are highly flexible and individualized to meet the varying needs of children and their families.

The Young Adult Peer Mentors use their lived experience to support young adults with setting and implementing goals in education, employment, housing, relationships, life skills and social needs. Mentors also help peers in identifying strengths and interests to assist in monitoring interventions and personal recovery goals.

Other Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the development of valued community roles including group memberships, employment, or volunteer experiences.
  • Support the development and maintenance of key skills including stress management, relapse prevention, self-determination, self-advocacy, decision making, and goal planning using recovery tools.
  • Assist peers in the development of a health and wellness plans including relapse prevention, planning, and understanding the symptoms of mental illness.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent, required.
  • Experience living with and recovering from mental health challenges, substance misuse, and or traumatic life challenges, required
  • At least 1 year of experience working with youth and or young adults, required.
  • Valid Drivers License, acceptable driving record and reliable vehicle, required.
