Product Operations Manager
OpenAI's Integrity team is a platform team that builds systems and products enabling the success of OpenAI's first-party and third-party experiences. Our mission is to accelerate our path to AGI by proactively combating abuse of our models, misuse of compute resources, lost revenue, and harm to people and society. We focus on:
- Building mature policy enforcement and data-insight systems that protect new and existing products
- Mitigating user churn and societal risk by closing critical product gaps
- Providing highly reliable, low-latency foundations that scale across surfaces and partners
Product Operations at OpenAI streamlines and automates org operations and information channels (across applied and adjacent functions) to set strong foundations for collaboration at scale, and provides operational expertise and leverage for product teams.
This Product Operations Manager role is for a senior IC partnering closely with Integrity leadership. You'll orchestrate cross-functional execution for policy and enforcement changes, platform rollouts, and launch interlocks with product teams—balancing user safety, developer experience, and business impact.
This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees.
In this role, you will:
- Streamline new product launch processes and interlock between Integrity and product teams (ChatGPT, API, etc.), ensuring risk reviews, gating criteria, and go/no-go decisions are clear and timely.
- Shepherd large-scale Integrity platform rollouts/changes—e.g., new/updated enforcement pipelines, policy updates, rate-limit frameworks, classifier rollouts—owning change management, migration plans, developer/customer communications, and post-launch follow-through.
- Establish durable feedback loops with Support, Trust & Safety, Policy, GTM/Enterprise, and Developer Relations; synthesize signals into actionable recommendations for Product/Eng.
- Automate workflows and visibility—build/operate tools, dashboards, and templates (e.g., risk reviews, change logs, migration trackers, release notes) that scale Integrity's impact.
- Partner with PM/Legal/Privacy/Policy to align on requirements, data handling, and auditability; maintain accurate documentation and decision trails.
- Contribute to Product Ops craft at OpenAI—standardizing processes, templates, and playbooks that improve speed, quality, and cross-org alignment.
You might thrive in this role if you:
- Have hands-on experience in Integrity/Trust & Safety/risk/fraud or complex platform change management.
- Are fantastic at cross-functional leadership—aligning Product, Engineering, Policy, Trust & Safety, Security, SRE, Legal/Privacy, Support, and GTM.
- Move quickly from first workable version → iterative scaling, balancing safety, developer experience, and business outcomes.
- Comfortably build systems/tools (code/no-code/AI) that make complex workflows simple and auditable.
- Communicate with clarity—concise docs, crisp updates, and change communications that land with executives and external developers.
- Can self-prioritize and context switch across multiple launches and platform programs without losing quality.
- Know how to find the line between chaos and bureaucracy when setting up process.
- Can understand our codebase and model interfaces enough to determine practical solutions and constraints.
- Are engaged and curious about the rapidly evolving AI safety and platform landscape.
Specific technologies / skills that will be helpful in this role:
- Understanding of policy enforcement systems (signals, rules/heuristics, safety classifiers, rate-limit frameworks), moderation/abuse detection, and evaluation/metrics (precision/recall, backtesting, canarying).
- Experience with OpenAI LLM APIs (text generation, structured outputs, function calling) and guardrail patterns.
- Programming: Python, JavaScript (for automation scripts, lightweight services).
- No-Code/Low-Code: Airtable, Retool, Zapier (or similar) for workflow and approvals.
- Data & Observability: SQL, Google Sheets automations, Databricks; familiarity with dashboards and alerting (e.g., Grafana/Datadog).
- Awareness of privacy/security fundamentals and change-management controls (audit trails, approvals, rollback plans).
