The outpatient service centers include the phlebotomy draw stations located at Ross Heart Hospital, Martha Morehouse Pavilion, Outpatient Care Dublin, Outpatient Care Lewis Center, Outpatient Care Gahanna, Outpatient Care Upper Arlington, Outpatient Care New Albany, and Hilliard encompass specimen collection, specimen processing, and point of care testing services within the Department of Clinical Laboratories. These patient service center locations are staffed between the hours of 7:00 am to 5:30pm, Monday through Friday, and Saturday mornings in some location(s) in order to accommodate each service center's specific operational and patient service needs.
The patient service technician (PST) performs specimen collection by both venipuncture and capillary puncture, specimen labeling, and specimen processing. Verifies accuracy and quality of specimens collected and dispatches specimens to appropriate testing locations, and performs training of others in these techniques. Also performs test requisition entry, greets and directs patients through the lab and gathers complete patient information necessary to complete the registration and accessioning of all procedures done in the area. Performs point of care testing; ensures accuracy of results and Quality Control measures by maintaining equipment and instruments. Follows policy for chain of custody record keeping for pre-employment urine drug screen collections.
High school graduate or equivalent required; Certified phlebotomist preferred; EKG training through an accredited organization preferred.
Final candidates are subject to successful completion of a background check. A drug screen or physical may be required during the post offer process.
