Summary: Completes a variety of trauma registry tasks, including data collection, data entry and retrieval, display and statistical conversion with focus on data quality, integrity, and data analysis. Interacts with state and regional regulatory agencies to provide required data that ensures the accreditation of the hospital's designation as a Level I Adult Trauma Center, Level II Pediatric Trauma Center, and accredited Burn Center. Obtains, abstracts, and enters appropriate concurrent and retrospective patient data on trauma. Uses Abbreviated Injury Scaling (AIS) coding of injuries to maintain the trauma patient databases. Uses the MetroHealth Trauma Data Quality Plan as a job outline to facilitate trauma data validation. Upholds the mission, vision, values, and customer service standards of The MetroHealth System.
Qualifications: Required: High school diploma or passage of a high school equivalency exam. Successful completion of an Abbreviated Injury Scaling (AIS) Coding course. Possess both of the following trauma registrar certifications: Certified Specialists in Trauma Registries (CSTR) from the American Trauma Society (ATS). Certified Abbreviated Injury Scaling Specialists (CAISS) from the Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine (AAAM). Possess one or more of the following coding certifications: Certified Professional Coder (CPC) from the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). Certified Coding Specialists (CCS) from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) from the AHIMA. Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) from the AHIMA. 3 years of experience working as a Trauma Registrar. Experience with ICD-10 coding. Experience with EPIC Systems. Knowledge of medical terminology including anatomy and/or physiology. Working knowledge of hospital medical records system(s). Strong PC skills, including strong typing skills. Experience with database entry and maintenance. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong organizational skills. Ability to work independently or as a member of a team. Ability to interact effectively with a wide range of cultural, ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Preferred: None. Physical requirements: May sit, stand, stoop, bend, and ambulate intermittently during the day. May need to sit or stand for extended periods. See in the normal visual range with or without correction. Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction. Finger dexterity to operate office equipment required. May need to lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds on occasion. Ability to communicate in face-to-face, phone, email, and other communications. Ability to see computer monitor and departmental documents.
