The ODOT District 12 Capital Programs Department, which includes the Planning, Design, and Construction sections, has a key position vacancy that requires the expertise of a professional engineer. TE4 – Construction Area Engineer

• Oversee and support a team of highly skilled project engineers and inspectors running multiple construction projects of varying complexity.
• Ensure construction projects are administered consistently and in compliance with contract specifications, plans, and the plan package.
• Responsible for balancing construction workload across a team and ensuring projects are adequately staffed.
• Work closely with Design, Planning, and Maintenance Departments to address issues and future project considerations.
• Serve as a liaison to contractors, consultants, government agencies, and ODOT Central Office.
• Perform constructability plan reviews.
• Process change orders and estimates.
• Utilize multiple computer software programs such as AASHTOWare Project (AWP), Ellis, etc. to manage construction projects.
• Manage in-house and consultant inspection staff.
• Serve as a mentor for upcoming project engineers, interns, and other personnel.
• Nurture an environment based on focused empowerment, employee development, technical proficiency, fairness, partnering, feedback, collaboration, and public service.

The District 12 Capital Programs Department is seeking a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Ohio who is passionate about public service, capable of working in a fast-paced environment, conscientious, self-directed, adaptable problem solvers, and takes initiative to manage issues independently. The candidate should have a good understanding of construction engineering & administration, general engineering principles, and the ODOT project development process. The candidate should be proficient in reading and interpreting plans and contract documents, as well as have strong communication skills for interacting and building relationships with various team members, project stakeholders, public officials, contractors, and external customers. Qualifications

Licensed as registered professional engineer by Ohio State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers & Surveyors; 2 yrs. exp. as group or project leader or supervisor providing work direction & training to employees engaged in engineering projects or 2 yrs. exp. in managing engineering research projects (i.e., managing research projects applies only to staff specialist positions); if assigned to operate a state vehicle to travel to & inspect project sites, must possess valid driver's license. -Or licensed as registered professional engineer by Ohio State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers & Surveyors; 12 mos. exp. as Transportation Engineer 3, 85643; if assigned to operate a state vehicle to travel to & inspect project sites, must possess valid driver's license. -Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above may be substituted for the experience required, but not for the mandated registration. The selection process for this position will include a structured interview. Candidate responses to the interview questions will be scored and the selection will be made in accordance with the OCSEA/AFSCME Contract. This position is overtime exempt based on FLSA Standards. If this position is filled internally, the wage rate will be determined in accordance with the Ohio Revised Code.
