Transportation Engineer 3/Bridge Standards Staff Specialist

Organization: Transportation - Central Office

Work Location: Ohio Dept of Transportation, 1980 West Broad Street, 4th Floor, Columbus, 43223

Schedule: Full-time, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM

Compensation: $39.22 – 55.99 per hour

What you will be doing:

  • Develop and maintain Ohio bridge standards by contributing to official ODOT publications like the Bridge Design Manual and Standard Bridge Drawings.
  • Research, develop, and support policy for the design, construction, and maintenance of bridges.
  • Advise internal and external stakeholders on bridge policy and project related issues.
  • Utilize Engineering Software (e.g. Leap Bridge Concrete/Steel, Midas, Merlin-Dash, CADD-ORD/OBM/OBD, Mathcad).
  • Manage projects related to policy development and develop/lead training classes.
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews and sign engineering documents as a registered professional engineer.

Qualifications:

Licensed as registered professional engineer by Ohio State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers & Surveyors; 12 mos. exp. as Transportation Engineer 3, 85642; if assigned to operate a state vehicle to travel to & inspect project sites, must possess valid driver's license.

Or licensed as registered professional engineer by Ohio State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers & Surveyors; 2 yrs. exp. as group or project leader or supervisor providing work direction & training to employees engaged in engineering projects or 2 yrs. exp. in managing engineering research projects (i.e., managing research projects applies only to staff specialist positions); if assigned to operate a state vehicle to travel to & inspect project sites, must possess valid driver's license.

Supplemental Information:

All bargaining unit and exempt new hires to ODOT must serve a one-year probationary period.

This position is overtime exempt per FLSA standards.

If this position is filled internally, the wage rate will be determined in accordance with the Ohio Revised Code.

The final candidate selected for this position will be required to undergo a criminal background check.
