The Store Specialist role at Ocean State Job Lot plays a key role in creating a positive and engaging customer experience. This role handles customer service, processes complex point-of-sale transactions, and ensures the smooth operation and merchandising of assigned areas – all while adhering to Company policies and merchandising guidelines. The role also provides oversight of assigned associates and activities.
Key responsibilities include: building lasting relationships by providing exceptional customer service through the T.R.E.A.T. model, fostering a welcoming environment; assisting customers with inquiries, locating items, completing purchases, handling transactions accurately, and performing advanced point-of-sale functions; promoting Company-wide customer initiatives (donations, loyalty programs, promotions); maintaining visually appealing displays, restocking assigned areas, and merchandising new items according to Company guidelines; training and coordinating assigned associates, managing breaks according to policy and regulations; communicating issues and improvement opportunities to store leadership; maintaining a safe and organized environment for customers and associates through proactive maintenance and cleaning; and handling daily damages and returns according to established procedures.
Qualifications include: prior retail merchandising, customer service, and/or cashier experience in other retail environments is preferred; basic math and reading skills, legible handwriting, and good verbal and written communication skills are required; full-time associates in this role must have availability to work as needed by the business including nights and weekends; and must be 18 years of age or older.
Work environment includes: working primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential; this position requires extended periods of moving, remaining stationary, ascending, descending, and/or positioning oneself to complete various tasks throughout the shift; responsible for physical activities including using hand tools, ascending or descending a ladder, moving, reaching, and lifting on a frequent basis; should be able to lift 35 lbs on a regular basis; reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
