Internship Opportunity

The first Hudson River vehicular tunnel was opened in 1927. It was considered an outstanding engineering achievement, whose principles are employed to this day. The Holland Tunnel was designated a National Historic Civil and Mechanical Engineering Landmark in 1984 by the American Society of Civil and Mechanical Engineers. In 1993, the tunnel was designated a National Historic Landmark by the U.S. Department of Interior.

Responsibilities:

• Review drawings
• Assist with all tours of facility buildings
• Visit job sites
• Attend meetings, prepare memoranda, gather information
• Assist the Physical Plant Manager and/or the Senior Business Manager with all ongoing and planned construction activity and/or Administrative Unit projects at the Holland Tunnel
• Assist with overseeing and coordinating various Holland Tunnel Facility projects
• Take notes for meetings
• Coordinate with other departments/units

Minimum Qualifications:

• Enrollment at a college or university at the time of the internship
• Major in Engineering
• Valid driver's license

Desired Qualifications:

• Proficient with Microsoft Office
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Interest in contributing to the success of the New York and New Jersey region
• Interest in public service and/or transportation
• Willingness to learn

Internship Details:

• Start date: Thursday, May 28, 2026
• Duration: Approximately 12 weeks, ending on Friday, August 21, 2026
• Format: Expected to be fully in-person

Compensation & Benefits:

• The hourly rate range is $18.07 to $30.31 (the exact rate will be determined by internship type and rising school year)
