The Stationary Engineer position is critical to the operation of the Public Health Lab, a 24/7/365 facility. The Engineering staff monitors all critical Building and Laboratory equipment and answers to emergencies as required. • Cooling tower compliance maintaining, inspecting, testing and report deficiencies.
  • Operating, maintaining, and adjusting steam power plant and electromechanical building equipment.
  • Making periodic inspections and minor repairs to equipment. Reading and logging meters, gauges, and other recording devices.
  • Maintaining heating, ventilation, air conditioning HVAC, boilers, refrigeration systems, generators, condensers, and pumps.
  • Operating control consoles in control rooms.
  • Preparing requisitions for materials and spare parts.
  • Performing related duties and attending to emergencies as they arise.

Preferred Skills:

  • A valid license for a High-Pressure Boiler Operating Engineer issued by the New York City Department of Buildings.
  • Also required is a certificate of qualification for refrigerating systems issued by the New York City Fire Department.
  • Candidates will be required to possess a Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York. These licenses must be maintained for the duration of employment.

Why you should work for us:

  • Benefits: City employees are entitled to unmatched benefits such as: a premium-free health insurance plan that saves employees over $10K annually, per a 2024 assessment. Additional health, fitness, and financial benefits may be available based on the position's associated union/benefit fund. A public sector defined benefit pension plan with steady monthly payments in retirement. A tax-deferred savings program and a robust Worksite Wellness Program that offers resources and opportunities to keep you healthy while serving New Yorkers.
  • Work From Home Policy: Depending on your position, you may be able to work up to two days during the week from home.
  • Job Security - you could enjoy more job security compared to private sector employment and be able to contribute to making NYC a healthy place to live and work.
