Section Manager

Come join us at Con Edison as a Section Manager where you will lead a skilled team responsible for daily operations and maintenance, ensure the safe and reliable delivery of electric and gas services, manage budgets and schedules, develop talent through coaching and performance feedback, coordinate with engineering and field crews to resolve operational challenges, implement process improvements to boost efficiency and reduce risk, and represent the section to internal and external stakeholders. You will use data to drive decisions, enforce regulatory and company standards, and foster a safety-first culture while delivering measurable results.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Ensure employee, customer, public, and site safety are always considered in procurement strategy, and contribute proactively to maintaining the Company’s safety-focused culture, including through purposeful field visits with the team.
  • Maintain rigorous adherence to Company policies & procedures governing procurement.
  • Conceptualize multiple pathways to deliver on internal customers procurement needs before the needs emerge downstream.
  • Motivate and coach internal customers to think proactively about their procurement needs, assisting them in crafting scopes of work that are fit for purpose.
  • Collect, parse, and analyze relevant datasets to drive informed decision-making at the outset of the procurement journey.
  • Seek and apply real-time feedback from internal customers and suppliers to adjust procurement strategies for improved procurement outcomes.
  • Deliver cost savings for internal customers through procurement outcomes.
  • Address issues that arise with vendors constructively to ensure continuity of business operations and compliance with policies & procedures.
  • Incorporate Third-Party Risk Management data in contract negotiations to mitigate risks and lower total cost of ownership.
  • Teach team members by example and through proactive coaching and mentoring to drive performance improvement. Build a cohesive, high-performing team to meet deadlines and deliver on initiatives.
  • Solicit and consider the perspectives of team members while also respectfully questioning their assumptions.
  • Use Company-approved applications or leverage new technology to create and unlock efficiencies and reduce procurement cycle time.
  • Increase inclusion of small business to advance supply chain risk mitigation strategies and expand economic impact.
  • Qualifications:

    Required Education/Experience:

    Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, or an equivalent field and 8 years of relevant work experience.

    Relevant Work Experience:

    Minimum of eight years of relevant work experience, required.

    Three or more years of proven experience managing people and teams, required.

    Proficiency in Microsoft 365, required.

    Demonstrates proficiency in Oracle EBS, possesses extensive project management experience, and consistently exhibits strong leadership skills, required.

    Supply Chain experience at operations level, preferred.

    Experience using Agile, Scrum, or Rapid Results in project management or product development, preferred.

    Knowledge of the procurement process, preferred.

    Ability to build strong customer relationships.

    Strong written and verbal communication skills.

    Excellent organizational skills.

    Develops and delivers effective presentations.

    Ability to lead/manage others.

    Well organized, detail oriented and flexible to handle multiple assignments.

    Must be proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, etc.

    Licenses and Certifications:

    Driver’s License Required.

    Physical Demands:

    Sit or stand to answer a phone for the duration of the workday.

    Sit or stand to use a keyboard, mouse, and computer for the duration of the workday.

    Additional Physical Demands:

    The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.

    Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory and meet with suppliers as needed.
