Operations Apprentice
The Operations Apprentice is responsible for assisting experienced operators in the operation and maintenance of the wastewater treatment facility. This position requires working on a rotating shift.
Minimum Requirements:
- Knowledge of the principles and methods used in the treatment and disposal of wastewater and biosolids
- Understanding of laws, rules, and regulations
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions
- Ability to learn and retain technical information
- Mechanical and/or problem-solving aptitude
- Computer literacy
- Ability to read, write, communicate, and understand English sufficiently
- Ability to understand and execute oral and written directions
Experience:
- Minimum of one year (1) experience for internal applicants
- Minimum of three (3) years of related experience for external applicants, preferably in wastewater treatment
Education:
- High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate
- Satisfactory completion of both the Introduction to Wastewater course and Advanced Wastewater course
- Completion of Advanced Wastewater Collections course preferred
License and/or Certifications:
- A valid New Jersey driver's license is preferred but not required
- Must obtain a S1 license within 2 years or must be actively pursuing a S1 license
Physical Demands:
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position as they relate to physical and mental requirements to ensure the health and safety of oneself, and others is maintained
- Ability to perform entry into confined spaces while wearing proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) such as canister and dust masks as well as SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus)
- Perform physical activities that require considerable use of the arms, legs, and the whole body, such as climbing (including ladders), lifting up to 50 lbs., balancing, walking, stooping, and handling heavy objects
Working Conditions:
- Employed in conditions associated with a wastewater treatment plant and sewer collection system
- Required to work indoors and outdoors
- Ability to perform entry into and work in confined spaces while wearing proper personal protective equipment (PPE) such as canister and dust masks as well as Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)
The expected base pay range is $57,859 to $88,136. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate's relevant experience, qualifications, education, training, and formal credentials.
