Community Coordinator

HPD is entrusted with fulfilling these objectives through the goals and strategies of Housing Our Neighbors: A Blueprint for Housing and Homelessness, Mayor Adams' comprehensive housing framework. To support this important work, the administration has committed $5 billion in new capital funding, bringing the 10-year planned investment in housing to $22 billion the largest in the city's history. This investment, coupled with a commitment to reduce administrative and regulatory barriers, is a multi-pronged strategy to tackle New York City's complex housing crisis, by addressing homelessness and housing instability, promoting economic stability and mobility, increasing homeownership opportunities, improving health and safety, and increasing opportunities for equitable growth.

Your Team: The Division of Budget and Program Operations (BPO) within the Office of Housing Access and Stability provides support services to the Division of Housing Opportunity, Division of Tenant and Owner Resources, the Division of Housing Stability, and the Division of Policy and Program Innovation. BPO assists with monitoring and supporting program budgeting and planning, including both staffing and procurement support. The Division also manages the Housing Quality Enforcement and related inspection functions for the Office. In addition, the BPO team coordinates technology initiatives and analytics across the Office in coordination with key technology stakeholders across the agency, providing support on key systems to internal and external stakeholders.

Your Impact: A Housing Quality Enforcement Inspector in the Division of Budget and Program Operations (BPO) conducts Housing Quality Standard Inspections of certain public housing dwelling units converting to project-based assistance. HQE inspectors will conduct Vacant, Initials and Biennial inspections for the above-mentioned units using NYCHA's electronic handheld equipment.

Your Role:

  • Be able to perform inspections independently as to the condition of the dwelling
  • Attempt to perform twenty-five (25) inspections per day, provided that NYCHA schedules the day's inspections for each inspector in a single development or neighborhood.
  • Collect all data from inspections in order to enter information into Elite Database System
  • Ability to carry equipment necessary to perform inspections
  • Communicate clearly if issues arise to supervisor
  • May perform inspections in team, if necessary

Preferred skills:

  • Computer knowledge
  • Possess Interpersonal Skills
  • Knowledge of rental subsidies or Section 8 subsidy preferred
  • Knowledge of housing structures and housekeeping standards preferred
  • Bilingual a plus

Qualifications:

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
  • High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.

Salary Min: $ 62,868.00 Salary Max: $ 72,298.00
