Communications & Marketing Intern

NYSIF is seeking a motivated Communications & Marketing Intern to assist with digital content creation, social media planning, internal communications, and day-to-day departmental projects. This role is ideal for students pursuing communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, graphic design, or related field who have an interest in business marketing, insurance, government, and strategic communications.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist in planning, drafting, and scheduling content for NYSIF's social media platforms.
  • Monitor social media channels for trends, engagement opportunities, and potential reputational risks.
  • Support communication projects including newsletters, intranet updates, website content, and presentations.
  • Help create digital assets such as graphics, short videos, and campaign materials.
  • Conduct research to support communications initiatives, including audience insights, competitive analysis, and best practices.
  • Assist with event support, photography, note-taking, and logistics as needed.
  • Update content libraries, editorial calendars, and media tracking logs.
  • Collaborate with subject-matter experts and internal teams to ensure messaging accuracy and compliance.
  • Provide general administrative and project support to the Communications office.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university program (Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, Digital Media, or similar preferred).
  • Strong academic standing. 3.0 or higher – Juniors and/or Seniors.
  • Ability to commit to agreed-upon hours during the semester.
  • Professionalism, confidentiality, and a willingness to learn.

Preferred skills:

  • Strong writing and editing abilities.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms (LinkedIn, X, Facebook, Instagram).
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
