Operations Planning Graduate Intern

The selected candidate will be offered a salary of $26.73 per hour. The Administration for Children's Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services and provides subsidized childcare vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment. In juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placement, and programs for youth in the community. ACS' Division of Administration (ADMIN) ensures that ACS has the resources and support necessary to function effectively and efficiently. Offices with ADMIN include Procurement, Facilities, Personnel, Administrative Services, and Accountability and Audit. ADMIN's functions include personnel management as well as building maintenance, workplace safety, health and security, transportation, purchasing of goods and services, graphic services, and records management. Within ADMIN, the Chief Operating Office (COO) is responsible for providing high-level administrative and analytical operational support as well as supporting development and implementation of short-term plans and long-term organizational strategies for the Division. The COO manages the $75M Other-Than-Personnel Services budget for all divisional contracts and finances to effectively manage and deliver operational goods and services. Additionally, the COO also manages the Personnel Services budget for all 463 divisional headcount with an operating budget of $30.4M. ADMIN is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Operations Planning Graduate Intern to join our team. As an Operations Planning Graduate Intern, you will support the COO in day-to-day operations and contribute to long-term projects aimed at improving overall management of the Division's Other-than-Personnel Services Budget. This internship offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in providing business analysis and management support to deliver comprehensive and well-rounded solutions to real-world issues within a government organization. Additionally, as a member of the 2026, ACS Summer Internship Program cohort, you will participate in an enrichment program designed to fully engage students into the ACS and NYC government experience. Internship programming includes professional development workshops, lunch and learns, speaker events, NYC government tours, and networking opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

- Assist with tracking, updating, and monitoring the Division's Other-Than-Personnel-Services budget in efforts to identify trends, deficiencies, or excess funding in operational areas - Help with procurement efforts of the Division's operational units by closely coordinating with the with all stakeholders - Support development of reporting tools (e.g. dashboards and tracking sheets) to improve workload tracking and planning - Provide business analysis and management support to cross-functional units to address business problems, as needed - Coordinate with staff to update workload documentation and activity tracking - Assist with creation and maintenance of the unit's standard operating procedures, including best practices

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must be currently enrolled in a graduate degree program in an accredited college, university or law school.

Preferred Skills

- Currently pursuing a graduate degree in economics, mathematics, statistics, finance, business analytics or other related field - Quantitative, analytical, and project management skills - Ability to multi-task and prioritize projects - Solid interpersonal skills and exceptional listening, written and verbal communication skills - Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, PowerBI)

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
