Media Service Technician

Candidates who are permanent in the civil service title of Media Service Technician (MST) are strongly encouraged to apply. In addition, candidates who are hired provisionally would be required to take and pass the Media Service Technician civil service exam for continued employment in the title.

The mission of the Professional Standards Division's Compliance Section – Body Worn Camera Unit is to ensure compliance with department policy, New York State and Federal Law as well as adhere to and ensure compliance with federally mandated use of force reporting practices. The Compliance Section strives to create relevant reports and data accessibility resources to ensure Command and Borough/Bureau level compliance as it pertains to body-worn camera use.

The Compliance Section – Body Worn Camera Unit seeks a qualified Media Service Technician, Level I to:

  • Review body-worn camera videos to assist in ensuring NYPD compliance with processes and procedures and all applicable laws, regulations, rules, and policies.
  • Performs video duplication, redaction, and editing for confidentiality in press releases and for training purposes.
  • Conducts routine monitoring of the Video Management Systems to ensure procedural compliance.
  • Conducts research for video files for comparative statistics and analyses.
  • Facilitates the viewing of body-worn camera footage for Plaintiff Counsel Review sessions.

Work Location: 375 Pearl St., New York, N.Y. 10038

Hours/Shift: Monday - Friday; Between 0700 – 1800

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in one or a combination of the following areas of study: electronics technology, television production, broadcast communications, film production, audio production.
  • An associate degree from an accredited college or university including or supplemented by 12 semester credits in one or a combination of the following areas of study: electronics technology, television production, broadcast communications, film production, audio production, still photography, graphic arts or in a related field and one year of satisfactory full-time experience operating, maintaining, and repairing audio-visual, video and related broadcast production equipment.
  • A certificate or diploma in electronics or another area of study described above from an accredited vocational or technical high school, approved by a State's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization and two years of satisfactory full-time experience as described in ""2"" above.
  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization, and three years of satisfactory full-time experience as described in ""2"" above.
  • A combination of education and/or experience equivalent to ""1"",""2"",""3"", or ""4"" above. However, all candidates must have a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent.

Preferred Skills: Analytical skills, Microsoft Office Suite and proficiency in Excel, strong written and verbal communication skills
