The DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 7,500 diverse professionals and knowledgeable experts. The Nutritional Services Division is responsible for providing regularly scheduled healthy and nutritional meals to both persons in custody and members of staff within the department. There are currently two production kitchens that operate twenty-four (24) hours a day preparing and delivering meals to all facilities on Rikers Island and several other satellite and court facilities. At minimum, a four to six (4-6) weeks food inventory is on hand at any given time. DOC seeks to hire an Executive Director of Nutritional Services, who under the direction of the Assistant Commissioner of Nutritional Services with great latitude for the exercise of independent action and decision-making will administer and direct the meal programs for the inmate population.
