We are looking for a Principal Engineer to join our Autonomous Vehicles and Physical AI Solutions team. In this high-impact role, you will be the technical authority for our most strategic automotive and robotics partnerships in Japan. You will bridge the gap between NVIDIA's full-stack technologies—including DRIVE AGX Thor, Hyperion Platform, DRIVE OS, Halos OS, Alpamayo and Cosmos world foundation models—and the production-grade requirements of Japanese and global OEMs.
The role is ideal for candidates who enjoy working at the intersection of artificial intelligence, full-stack system optimization and safety architecture in the technical dimension, but also feel comfortable interacting with top-level technical decision makers to influence and assist selecting the right solutions that meet long-term objectives.
Physical AI Innovation: Making use of your deep experience with Japanese OEM design philosophies, tailor the roadmap of the Alpamayo reasoning VLA model to become the perfect fit for the Japanese market. The solutions will unify synthetic world generation and physical reasoning, and enable vehicles to process natural language instructions and navigate complex long-tail scenarios.
Architectural Stewardship: Build the engineering alignment for success of strategic automotive customer partnerships around the NVIDIA DRIVE architecture. You will facilitate alignment between customer requirements and NVIDIA's technical offerings, covering all layers from system software, safety architecture, embedded AI solutions, development and validation tools, as well as cloud solutions.
Industry Advocacy & Standardization: Represent NVIDIA at Japanese industry forums, technical committees, and regulatory bodies to influence the evolution of standards for functional safety and Physical AI certification. Evangelize NVIDIA's technology leadership at major industry events, fostering a robust ecosystem of partners around the DRIVE Hyperion platform, Halos OS, and the Alpamayo and Cosmos model families.
Strategic Partnerships: Serve as the technical authority for strategic RFI and RFQ engagements, aligning customer roadmaps with NVIDIA's full-stack Physical AI solutions. You will define the technical vision for high-profile software deployments, transforming fragmented partner inputs into cohesive architectural blueprints featuring Alpamayo reasoning models and Halos OS to ensure a seamless transition from concept to final product.
Engineering Excellence: Establish standards for scaling physical AI production deployment, incorporating deterministic real-time design principles, observability features, as well as high-fidelity simulation environments using Omniverse NuRec. Lead the definition of methodologies that catch issues before they happen in production.
University degree, or equivalent knowledge, in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related principle.
15+ years of ADAS industry experience, with deep hands-on experience designing and deploying multiple generations of AI-based active-safety solution.
Cross-domain engineering proficiency, covering system software, real-time systems, sensors, as well as end-to-end AI systems.
Experience interacting and building partnerships with technical executives.
5+ years experience in a high-impact leadership position.
Experience building end-to-end autonomous driving solutions based on world foundation models.
Experience contributing to all layers of production ADAS systems.
