Data Engineer Opportunity At Suma SaaS

Suma + is the leading Saas group in the region, seeking to transform the administration of SMEs in Latam. As a Data Engineer at SUMA SaaS, you will join a data team in full formation and growth. You will be a key piece in the evolution of our data infrastructure, taking ownership of existing flows and leading the transition towards a modern and scalable data ecosystem. Your Mission And Key Challenges

Your mission will be to build a robust, standardized, and scalable regional data warehouse, with solid data governance, to democratize access to information throughout the company.

In your first 3 to 6 months, your main projects will be:

  • Take Control And Optimize: Perform a diagnosis of current data flows (built with AWS Glue, Lambda, Step Functions, EC2, and other components), to then maintain, optimize, and ensure their reliability.
  • Lead The Modernization: Evaluate and propose the best data warehouse technology for our needs (e.g., Amazon Redshift vs. Snowflake), to then lead the migration project from our current system (SQL Server in EC2).
  • Migrate ETLs That Use Our ERP (Odoo): Adapt and migrate the extraction, transformation, and loading processes that depend on the ERP, considering the changes that will arise with the update of Odoo.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain efficient and reliable data pipelines using the AWS ecosystem (Glue, Lambda, S3, etc.).
  • Extract and process data from various sources, applying transformations with SQL and Python (Pandas) and Spark.
  • Implement and maintain data models in the Data Warehouse that serve as the basis for business analysis and BI reports.
  • Ensure the quality, integrity, and availability of data through monitoring and testing.
  • Collaborate closely with the Business Analytics team and stakeholders from the three countries where we operate to understand their needs and deliver data solutions.
  • Document the architecture, data flows, and technical decisions.

  • Cloud: Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Orchestration And Processing: AWS Glue, AWS Lambda, AWS Step Functions
  • Languages: Python and SQL
  • Current Data Warehouse: SQL Server in EC2
  • Future Data Warehouse: You will help us decide! (Evaluation of Redshift, Snowflake, BigQuery, etc.)
  • GitHub Repository Management

What Do You Need To Apply?

Essential Requirements (Must-Have):

  • More than 3 years of demonstrable experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role.
  • Solid experience programming in Python, especially with data manipulation libraries like Pandas.
  • Domination of SQL for data extraction, transformation, and modeling.
  • Practical experience working with data services in the AWS ecosystem (essentially AWS Glue, Lambda, S3, Step Functions).
  • Understanding of the fundamentals of data modeling and the architecture of a Data Warehouse.
  • Availability to work on-site in our office in Las Condes at least 3 days a week.

Desirable Qualifications (Nice-to-Have):

  • Participation in a project evaluating or migrating a Data Warehouse.
  • Direct experience with Amazon Redshift or Snowflake.
  • Basic knowledge of DevOps practices or Infrastructure as Code.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate in a dynamic environment with international teams.
