Automation Engineer

Location: Schweizerhalle, Switzerland

At the Novartis production site in Schweizerhalle, our Engineering Team is looking for reinforcements. It is our responsibility to ensure that processes run smoothly and reliably. We are also responsible for the process control and automation systems in chemical production, work in projects, and carry out maintenance activities.

Your tasks include:

  • Ensuring the technical availability of assigned automation systems, process control systems, plants, and building infrastructures, as well as cost efficiency within the defined limits.
  • Functioning as SME for projects in the area of responsibility.
  • Planning, conducting, and documenting maintenance and calibration activities, root cause analysis for deviations, and technical support and coordination of internal and external technicians.
  • Driving digitalization and innovation in the area of responsibility.
  • Supporting process harmonization in the Rhine Valley to enable efficient work.
  • Supporting internal and external audits and ensuring GMP and HSE compliance without critical findings.
  • Driving initiatives for continuous improvement to ensure that plants, automation systems, and processes optimally support our business requirements (cost efficiency, plant availability, product quality, compliance with GMP and HSE regulations).
  • Proactively selecting and managing assigned external resources within the given budget limits to ensure optimal value for money.
  • Leading or participating in projects to improve systems, utilities, and plants (e.g., energy efficiency, productivity, compliance with environmental regulations, maintenance).

What you bring to the position:

  • Completed studies in automation technology / electrical engineering (FH/HF) or comparable technical training.
  • Five years of experience as an engineer in the field of automation, preferably in the chemical or pharmaceutical industry.
  • Proven experience in solving software/automation problems and maintaining reliable operation of all building control/automation systems and related systems while adhering to and supporting global standards.
  • Knowledge of commissioning and qualification within automation (CSV).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of GxP/HSE and quality systems.
  • Knowledge and experience with process control systems (preferably Emerson DeltaV, Advantageous: knowledge of Aveva PI System, Siemens TIA Portal).
  • Strong IT and networking skills.
  • Willingness for on-call duties on weekends.
  • Language skills: German and English.
