The Naval & Oceanic Systems business unit headquartered in Annapolis, MD is seeking dependable individuals willing to work in a collaborative environment and that are interested in expanding their horizons.

The Hardware Engineering Department is seeking a front-line Supervisor to lead one of the SONAR Engineering Groups and the entire Dolphin Works lab administratively.

Responsibilities include functional management of ~12 engineers, coordinating personnel career development and training, workload forecasting, implementation of engineering process improvement initiatives, performance reviews, merit planning, estimating and proposal development, budget and schedule development, technical reviews and recruitment, interviewing and hiring.

In addition, we are looking for someone that will provide technical oversight and execution leadership in the design, analysis, build and test of complex SONAR systems hardware and manage the DolphinWorks sonar innovation lab. This will involve regular interfacing with facilities maintenance teams for physical plant support and campus leadership for sources of internal funding. The candidate will also be required to inform investments and ongoing sustainment of our AEDN (Annapolis Engineering Development Network) ideally as EM (Environment Manager) curating this dedicated network for our Sonar Design and sustainment team in cooperation with ISSE, ISSO and network Admins.

Interfacing with Government Representatives and other contractors in the performance of their daily duties is anticipated. Experience with underwater/naval systems such as Torpedo's, Towed Vehicles, Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUV), Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs), Acoustic Comms, Sonar Systems, Interfacing with Submarines, etc. is encouraged as duties will also include performing on undersea-domain systems programs.

The successful candidate should have demonstrated experience in multi-disciplinary hardware design and analysis, an understanding of design for manufacturing practices, production engineering, developing engineering processes and procedures and an understanding of engineering's role for supporting small to medium production quantities.

Ideal candidates will have demonstrated skills/experience in the following multi-disciplined areas:

  • Electronics design, analysis, procurement, fabrication and test
  • Firmware design, development, integration and test
  • Signal processing and beamforming
  • SONAR array design, analysis, fabrication and test
  • Transduction materials, passive materials and multi-physics finite element analysis (FEA)
  • Mechanical design (including electronics packaging), structural and thermal analysis, fabrication and assembly
  • Enterprise network configuration, Security+ certification (or equivalent) and an understanding of Cyber Security requirements and implementation.

The candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated leadership skills, and the ability to work both independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team in a fast-paced environment ranging from research and development to legacy products and production support.

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS in Electrical, Aerospace, Materials, Mechanical, Marine or Ocean Engineering, or a related field with 8+ years of experience or a Master's degree in a related field with 6+ years of experience.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work within diverse, multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate teams as a functional manager, program manager, Integrated Product Team (IPT) lead, and/or other significant leadership role.
  • Proficiency in using common engineering design, production and office tools (including PSpice, DxDesigner/Expedition, Unigraphics, MATLAB, and ANSYS/COMSOL , NX, TeamCenter, FEA, MS Office, PDM systems).
  • US citizen and possess an active Secret clearance to start with the ability and willingness to obtain a TS/SSBI and pass a polygraph

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Underwater/naval systems such as Torpedo's, Towed Vehicles, Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUV), Submarines, etc.
  • Background in Sonar arrays, sensors, communication arrays, transducers or radar
  • Experience in Design, Manufacture, and Test of Sonar Transducer Systems.
  • Familiarity with electrical test equipment (oscilloscopes, network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, etc)
  • Previous design or testing experience with Comms/Sonar/Radar receivers
  • An interest in seeing production sonar systems through manufacturing and test, locally, with the possibility of travel to field sites for final sell-off testing.
  • A current TS/SSBI/SCI clearance to start and the ability and willingness to obtain a TS/SSBI and pass a polygraph.
