Staff Systems Safety Engineer
Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking to hire a Staff Systems Safety Engineer to join its team of diverse and qualified individuals. This position will be located in Huntsville, AL or Roy, UT and will support the Sentinel (GBSD) program in the Strategic Deterrent Systems (SDS) division.
What you will get to do:
The Sentinel program has an exciting opportunity for a Systems Engineer to join the team supporting activities including use case development, requirements definition / allocation, functional decomposition, interface definition, verification & validation, and requirements traceability.
Specific duties to include, but are not limited to the following:
- Collaborate with program IPT counterparts to develop supporting systems engineering and design artifacts
- Work with both technical teams and stakeholders to develop and mature architecture content of large programs design
- Help develop and incorporate the appropriate requirements for the system and ensure that they are properly represented in the model
- Contribute to system requirements development, management, and analysis
- Develop unifying model techniques, procedures, and processes (for model development, tool integration, and team integration)
- The candidate will have experience in generation or review of design artifacts to support System Safety analyses utilized in maturing weapons system design for safety and support flight test and flight worthiness of complex systems
Basic Qualifications:
- Must be a US Citizen with an active U.S. Government Secret Clearance, at time of application, current and within scope, with an investigation date within the last 6 years
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business need
- 12 years of experience with a Bachelors of Science degree,10 years with a Masters, 8 years with a Doctorate degree in science, engineering, applied mathematics, computer science, aeronautics, safety, or closely related technical discipline
- Experience using MIL-STD-882E or similar processes for hardware and /or software design development
Preferred Qualifications:
- Lead a team in software safety processes in Engineering and Manufacturing Development Phase
- At least 4 years of using DO-178 or DO-254 for design development
- At least 5 years experience with C/C++, Java, object oriented design or similar software development experience
- Experience developing in an Agile environment
- Model Based Systems Engineering experience
- Experience developing missile flight systems software
- Associate Safety Professional (ASP) / Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Certificate
- Weapon System experience (Minuteman III or similar military or industry experience)
- Active Top Secret clearance with investigation in the last 6 years

This position's standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
