Northrop Grumman Space Systems is hiring for a Manager Engineering Technical Support – Level 1 in our Mechanical Engineering team within the Launch Vehicles Business Unit at our Chandler, AZ facility. The selected candidate will support the Machine Shop and Additive Lab.

The Manager will be responsible for maintaining a safe work environment, managing machine shop resources, scheduling, and assigning work to team members the machinists, tracking metrics for the shop, ordering material, coordinating maintenance both internally and externally for the machine tools and 3D printers, maintaining a safe work environment, and communicating with stakeholders. In addition to the technical requirements, conducting performance reviews, hiring, and other personnel management functions will be expected of the successful candidate.

The Manager will lead by example, ensure proper cross-training of the team, and make sure the team understands the requirements of the tasks that are being assigned to the team. This also includes having periodic meetings with the team to review the performance relative to the schedule.

Essential Functions:

  • Uphold safety requirements and standards for the Machine Shop and Additive Lab
  • Foster a team environment based on trust, communication and professionalism
  • Review engineering drawings to determine manufacturing requirements for machined and additively manufactured aerospace components; Plan production of parts, obtaining and allocating resources as necessary to meet requirements
  • Collaboratively set expectations with team members to drive performance and quality of work
  • Communicate with stakeholders to effectively balance schedule and resources to meet tight and often competing deadlines
  • Ensure material operations (ordering, receiving, inventory, charging out) are accurate and complete
  • Work interdepartmentally with Operations to track and execute the production of flight parts
  • Track performance of preventative, predictive, proactive and corrective maintenance for all machines
  • Help team members troubleshoot and find solutions to manufacturing issues
  • Collaborate with other Northrop Grumman sites to learn, share resources and create synergies
  • Anticipate customer needs and finds innovative ways to provide for those needs
  • Look for ways to modify or change existing methods/processes to improve outcomes through constructive ideas

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years of related engineering experience, or Masters with 3yrs related engineering experience, or 9 years related experience in of degree
  • Ability to plan, schedule, and assign work to meet deadlines
  • Ability to obtain a US DoD Secret Security Clearance, or higher
  • Ability to travel 10% of the time

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's in Mechanical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering
  • Demonstrated experience supporting integration / testing of flight hardware and oversight of technician work tasking
  • Experience handling ordnance
  • Experience with high pressure pneumatics
  • Active DoD US DoD Secret security clearance, or higher

Primary Level Salary Range: $104,500.00 - $156,700.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
