Student Intern - Protection Services (DGC)

This position provides temporary, project-based assistance in the Protection Services department. It is designed to offer real-world experience to students pursuing degrees aligned with the protection services field. The incumbent will gain exposure to DGC operations and practices while supporting teams with hands-on tasks and assignments appropriate to their field of study.

Essential duties include:

• Assist fire equipment maintenance and updating records.
• Updating records in accordance with policies and procedures for the plant.
• Observe emergency response activities.
• Gain knowledge of first aid care during emergencies.
• Assist with mobile patrol, gate control, and other security duties.
• May assist with other duties such as respirator fit testing, fire extinguisher maintenance, and creating employee and contractor badges.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications include:

• At least 18 years of age.
• Enrolled as a full-time student in a two-year Fire Protection Technology, Fire Science Program, Paramedic Technology program, or related discipline with at least one year completed, or recent graduate (within the past 12 months).
• Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5.
• Hold a valid driver's license.
• A transcript is required for all student intern positions, your application will not be reviewed unless a transcript is attached.

Preferred qualifications include:

• Previous internship or relevant work experience.
• Additional certifications or coursework in the field of study.

Physical and environmental demands include:

• Requires continuous walking; frequent standing, lifting or carrying up to 50 pounds at shoulder level and occasionally above head; and occasional sitting, stooping, climbing stairs or ladders, kneeling, reaching above and below shoulder level, crawling, pushing up to 35 pounds and pulling up to 60 pounds. With assistance, occasionally lift 160 pounds from floor to waist height.
• Requires finger dexterity, the ability to perform close work, good vision and hearing, and the ability to speak. Over 50% of the day is spent indoors.
• Frequently exposed to dirt, dust, chemicals and occasionally to fumes, extreme heat and cold, vibration, noise and poor ventilation. Requires the ability to work in confined areas and work at heights up to 400 feet, which requires the use of safety equipment, including a harness, in accordance with ANSI Z359 standards. Must be respirator qualified.
• Requires the ability to wear thermal, chemical and respiratory protective equipment when necessary.
