Plant Operations Intern

As a Plant Operations Intern at ONEOK, Inc., you will gain hands-on experience in the operation and maintenance of our natural gas gathering and processing facilities. This internship is designed to provide you with practical knowledge and skills in plant operations, safety protocols, and environmental stewardship. Internships typically begin towards the end of May and run through the first or second week of August. Exact dates will be agreed upon between you and the hiring manager.

Based on area of assignment interns provide field support in a variety of functional areas inclusive of: Engineering, Environmental, GIS, Safety and Health as well as other related disciplines. With supportive guidance and mentoring interns are provided the opportunity to engage to obtaining first-hand knowledge and experience. Internships are designed to augment college learning by further educating students in teamwork, problem solving skills, work ethics, adaptability, communication, responsibility, time management, organization, perseverance and motivation as well as commercial awareness and business acumen.

Key responsibilities include: learning about and assisting with the daily operation and monitoring of plant equipment and systems; supporting routine maintenance activities to ensure optimal performance and reliability; participating in safety and environmental compliance initiatives, adhering to ONEOK's commitment to a zero-incident culture; collaborating with team members to identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities; and contributing to the development of innovative solutions to enhance plant efficiency and sustainability.

Qualifications include: a high school diploma required and must be at least 18 years old; currently enrolled in a relevant technical or mechanical program; a strong commitment to safety and environmental responsibility; excellent communication and teamwork skills; the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment; a basic understanding of plant operations and maintenance principles; and a willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.

Work experience is not required. Knowledge, skills, and abilities include: taking initiative, demonstrating a positive attitude with an eagerness to learn, and being adaptable; ability to apply basic arithmetic and advanced math, algebra, and/or statistical methods; ability to communicate, exchange written and verbal information and/or instructions; ability to contribute critical thinking skills, work well in teams, have a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and strong verbal and written communication skills.

Licenses and certifications are not required.

Strength factor rating - physical demands/requirements: sedentary work, standing, walking, sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, fingering, feeling, talking, hearing, near vision, far vision, depth perception, and vision: color.

Working conditions/environment include: inside and outside environmental conditions, well-lighted, climate controlled areas, outdoor weather conditions, dust, fumes, gases, frequent repetitive motion, CRT, and computer monitor(s).

Travel to other locations may be required. Based on assigned tasks, employee may be assigned a company vehicle requiring the applicable driver's license.
