Manages the Automation Engineering department which provides project engineering development and business critical support for the automation, instrumentation, and manufacturing execution system components of the manufacturing process. Oversees the writing of application specific software for control equipment and manufacturing execution systems. Responsible to ensure strategic development and maintenance of Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) applications and control equipment, including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), instrumentation and sensors.
Plans, designs, and development of controls, communication, automation, and instrumentation strategies and standards for new and existing installations. Leads strategic development of MES applications and enhancements including systems/software which transfer of data and information between the control system and MES.
Collaborates with the IT Support team in defining the processes required for system fixes and process or system enhancements that have an impact on applications jointly developed and maintained by IT and Engineering. Oversees the delivery of operational control systems for production equipment modifications and new installations. Oversees design, testing, and deployment of future enhancements, releases, and process improvements to MES applications, lot tracking, and data collection systems.
Manages the documentation, validation, and change control for each of the manufacturing process control systems. Analyzes data from the lot tracking system and develops business cases for process improvement opportunities. Maintains financial objectives for Automation Engineering by preparing an annual budget, monitoring expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actions. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Education and Experience: BS degree in Engineering with 10 years of experience in an industrial environment. Must be 21 years of age or older. Knowledge of: Supervisory experience Experience in tobacco and/or union environment Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, & PowerPoint) and Microsoft Teams. Skilled in: Planning, organizing, and prioritizing Verbal and written communication Attention to detail Problem/situation analysis Effective time and task management Multitasking capabilities Flexibility and adaptability Ability to: Communicate to a broad and diverse audience. Prioritize assignments, workload, and manage time accordingly. Ability to travel 1 to 15 days per year

Requires prolonged machine operation including vehicle, computer, and keyboard equipment Use of manual dexterity and fine motor skills Identify and distinguish color and shades of color Work with equipment or perform procedures where carelessness may result in injury Experience exposure to uncomfortable work environment due to extreme temperature, noise level, and other conditions including second-hand smoke and/or vape Risk for occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens
