This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. ARTs are part of the regular career civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. The primary purpose of this position is to perform duties for systems administration, network operation and maintenance, and Information Technology (IT) security and system accreditation. Provides training to reservists in the duties and responsibilities set forth herein. Performs duties in support of systems administration, providing technical assistance to unit personnel regarding hardware and operating systems and applications software. Performs duties supporting the management of unit network connectivity and infrastructure and network maintenance. Analyzes network traffic patterns, system error messages, and software/hardware utilization reports to identify and correct problems. Provides Work Group Manager (WM)/customer support, help desk, assistance, training, and orientation in support of network and systems operations. Performs duties for the management of the Information Technology (IT) security program, protecting unit IT assets against unauthorized, accidental, or deliberate modification, disclosure, and destruction of data.
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Information Technology (IT) Management Series, 2210 Positions. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving AND at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of the principles, methods, and practices for integrating information system components sufficient to: perform duties in support of the planning, coordinating and administering of computer systems; configure and interface conventional hardware and software programs with operating systems; test and validate system performance, recommending methods to improve; etc.
EDUCATION: master's degree or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Work schedule will be aligned to allow incumbent to fully participate in unit training assemblies (UTA). The incumbent's regular assignments are ART duties; however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities. This position requires the employee to occasionally travel away from the normal duty station. The employee must be willing and able to travel on military and commercial aircraft. The employee might be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use. The employee must obtain and maintain Top Secret Security clearance.
