Position is based in the District 3 Office in Union County. This position will act as lead inspector or provide oversight to larger more complicated projects as assigned. This position will work with contractors, technicians, and other field support personnel to establish compliance with applicable engineering standards and guidelines, review plans for utility installations, roadway improvements, and secondary construction projects to verify conformance to approved plans and regulations. Prepare cost estimates for force account construction and purchase order contracts overseen by the District Office. Compute project quantities and draft special provisions contracts. Process agreements and permits, including utility and non-utility encroachment agreements, road additions and abandonments, and other records and reports as assigned. Meet with utility representatives, contractors, property owners, and others to discuss adherence to policies and procedures, answer questions and address complaints from the general public by telephone, written correspondence, or in person. Communicate effectively and establish positive work relationships with utility representatives, contractors, Engineers, co-workers, local government, the general public and others. Operate personal computer to prepare documents and maintain databases. Must use technical skills to effectively compute estimates and process agreements and permits. Requires close visual acuity to review and interpret plan details. Must be able to survey and inspect construction sites in rough terrain and variable temperatures. Safety toe shoes required.
Salary Grade: NC09 / Salary Range: $41,206 - $72,113

Associate degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and two (2) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
