The primary purpose of Location & Surveys is to serve as support services in providing engineering analysis, mapping and other data for the design of transportation facilities and the acquisition of property for the construction of transportation facilities. In this role you will:

  • Produce CADD mapping products such as Condemnation Sketch Maps, Condemnation Exhibit Maps, and MAP Act exhibits.
  • Assist in the creation of Written Deed Descriptions for use by the Right-of-Way Unit in their Negotiations and Appraisal sections.
  • Generate data to be placed in an online GIS (AGOL).

Management prefers applicants with the following:

  • Experience and skill in the use of CADD and survey procedures.
  • Experience with the NCDOT organizational structure as well as the NCDOT Legal Section and the associated roles and responsibilities of each.
  • Experience maintaining detailed records, performing analysis of findings, and recommending corrective actions when required.
  • Experience working as a member of a team in completion of assignments and individually in completion of assignments with limited supervision.
  • Experience with the concepts, practices, and procedures used in the acquisition of NCDOT Right-of-Way with limited supervision.

Associate's degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and two (2) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
