The employee in this position will function as an Engineering Technician I based in the Division 1 / District 3 Field Office located in Williamston, NC. The employee in this position will support higher level technicians and engineers in functional areas such as construction inspection, surveying, materials sampling, testing, and construction traffic control. Work functions may include entering specific project information into Sharepoint/Shareplus. Duties will include the performance of a wide variety of standardized and non-standardized tests and assignments in compiling, analyzing, computing, editing, and processing field data. The employee must be proficient in recordkeeping and have the ability to obtain and maintain certifications needed to perform material sampling and testing related to this position. Work may include other duties and responsibilities as assigned. The employee may have to work nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as necessary. This position is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions. The employee must be able to perform a full range of calculations and computations.
Salary Grade: NC07 Salary Range: $37,377 - $65,408

Must be able to legally operate a State vehicle. The employee may be assigned to work on the survey party and perform surveying tasks as assigned or may be assigned to inspect roadway and bridge projects, all in accordance with established policies and procedures. The employee will be required to have a close visual acuity to use testing instruments, read plan details, make accurate field measurements, and inspect roadway and structure components. Applicants must have the ability to perform entry level technical work in a specific materials area or perform sampling, testing, and inspection duties to determine specifications. The employee may be exposed to high traffic volumes, work at heights over water or traffic, and required to climb on the substructure and superstructure of bridges. The employees will be expected to work outside in various types of weather, terrain, and hours. The employee must be able to lift 50 lbs. The applicant will be required to attend and pass certifications for various sampling and testing classes and will also be required to obtain and maintain QMS Asphalt and Concrete Testing Certifications. Safety toe shoes are required for this position.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Associate's degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
