This is a repost, all previous applicants must reapply to be considered.This posting is for an Engineering Technician I position located in The NCDOT Division 9 – Salisbury Resident Engineer's Office in Rowan County. The Salisbury Resident Engineer's Office is seeking a highly motivated individual looking for a position with the potential of career advancement. This position performs technical duties supporting engineers and other professionals in areas such as construction inspection, surveying, materials testing, materials sampling, erosion control inspection, and construction traffic control audits on assigned projects. Work functions may include: inspection for compliance and/or code; collection and analysis of field data; testing of materials; review and interpret design plans; analysis of engineering related data and/or product data. Duties may also include: construction layout, measuring, staking, marking, and clearing brush. This position will perform other related duties as required. Applicants will be required to have a close visual acuity to use testing instruments, to read plan details, to make accurate field measurements and to inspect roadway and structure components. Additional Expectations:The selected applicant may be exposed to high traffic volumes, may work at heights over water or traffic, and may have to climb on the substructure and superstructure of bridges. This position must be able to safely perform manual tasks involving the bush axe and other tools on steep and rough terrain. This position is expected to carry testing equipment over rough and steep terrain. This position will be required to lift and carry at least 50 pounds. The successful applicant for this position is expected to safely work high above ground, safely operate a motor vehicle, be proficient in record keeping, and engineering testing equipment. A valid driver's license is preferred. This position may be required to work occasional nights and weekends and may be required to work snow/Ice events. Safety-toed shoes required.Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation.
Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC07 $37,377 - $65,408
Management prefers applicants with the following:
Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
