Android Engineer, Games
The New York Times is looking for an Android Engineer to join the Games mobile team.

This is a hybrid role based in our New York City headquarters, reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager, Games. You can typically expect to come into the office two days per week.
As an Android Engineer, you'll contribute to our team's goals by owning the development and creation of features from technical design through completion while actively seeking ways to improve themselves as an engineer.
We ship code to the Play Store weekly and optimize for speed of delivery without compromising on quality.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with product, project, design, data, QA, and other engineers to guide product development.
- Own small to medium sized Android features end to end
- Design, develop, and test new features using Kotlin and other modern Android development tools and frameworks.
- Contribute to app architectural decisions, code review, documentation, and technical roadmap
- You will optimize the platform to ensure our app is stable by writing quality code and partnering with the QA team to test and fix bugs.
- You will collaborate with internal NYTimes services, and external APIs.
- Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.
Basic Qualifications:
- You have 2+ years professional software development experience working with Android (Kotlin)
- Understanding of modern Android technologies such as Jetpack Compose, Coroutines, Dagger/Hilt, MVVM/MVI, and Room.
- Experience with layouts, themes, styles, views and other Android UI concepts.
- You embrace challenges, are always learning, and eager to bring others along in learning. We are utilizing Jetpack Compose and Coroutines for feature development.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience using modern Android technologies such as Coroutines and Jetpack Compose
- Experience working with UI that adapts to different screen sizes
- Familiarity with RESTful APIs
- Experience with Benchmarking
The annual base pay range for this role is between: $110,000 - $130,000 USD
