Newmont's Merian operation in Suriname is an open pit gold mine approximately 66km south of the town Moengo and 30 km north of the Nassau Mountains near the French Guiana. Newmont owns a 75 percent interest in the limited partnership and Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname N.V., Suriname's state-owned oil company, owns the remaining 25 percent interest.

What Will You Be Responsible For?

Manage mine services to support safe and efficient mining operations and ensure regulatory compliance.

In This Role You Will

In this role, the individual will:

  • Coordinate daily surface mining operations to ensure efficient and safe production activities.
  • Coordinate and lead mine services to support operational requirements, including maintenance, logistics, and infrastructure.
  • Implement and adhere to safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Monitor all operations to comply with relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations and standards.
  • Planned and distributed mine service resources and materials to support production in meeting their targets, including construction, auxiliary equipment management, dewatering, and road maintenance.
  • Formulate and execute short-term and long-term service plans to support the operations.
  • Monitor and assess operational performance metrics, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions.
  • Prepare and deliver regular reports on production, safety, and operational performance to senior management.
  • Collaborate with contractors to ensure compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and contractual obligations while aligning with organizational goals.

Formal education in Mining Engineering or related fields, should be taken into account to support these activities within the organization. Include required knowledge that has been gained through work practice with mining safety protocols and operational efficiency. Essential soft skills: leadership and coordination functions.

Working Conditions and Location

This position is located at Merian, the project site. Merian is a remote site located in a warm, humid tropical rainforest environment. The Merian mine is located in Northeastern Suriname, approximately 98 kilometers southeast of the capital city of Paramaribo and 60 kilometers south of Moengo. Accommodation is in a camp/village environment near the workplace. Suriname has a tropical climate with dry and two rainy seasons with anticipated tropical rainfall of 1.5m to 2.5m of rain per year. The individual is required to work 6 weeks at the site, a 3-weeks off fly-in fly-out arrangement. The incumbent is expected to spend most of her/his time in the field. The position may require traveling to the Denver corporate office and assisting other American sites.
