Project Engineer II

This position is located at the Los Alamos National Lab. It involves supervising the engineering activities across all disciplines on a project, or designated portions of a project, for a global business unit. The role also includes planning and directing engineering assignments on the project, providing engineering, technical, and managerial direction for problem definition, analysis, requirement development, and implementation for complex systems in the engineering discipline required to meet technical requirements.

Responsibilities include being responsible for assigned activities within an engineering discipline in support of facility and process construction and installation, applying broad and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in the preparation of complex engineering analyses, performing all aspects of work in engineering operations within discipline, performing conventional design and analysis, providing construction and project support, leading projects and supervising the work of others, working independently and as part of a team, utilizing engineering technology to accomplish work, making recommendations and advising on system development, improvements, optimization, or support efforts, performing risk assessments and analysis employing modeling and simulation techniques, providing system integration within and across disciplines, providing direction to technicians, continuously improving work processes to meet customer needs, and preparing calculations, drawings, data sheets, specifications, reports, reviews, studies, and estimates.

The Engineer may conduct drawing searches in engineering records and will perform field investigation and walkdown work as required. Typical drawings may include one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, lighting/power plans, installation details, feeder/circuit sizing, and conduit/cable schedules.

This position may be subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities. This DOE Order establishes entry-level requirements to ensure employees in the positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job. DoD and DoE experience is preferred. Work may be required outside normal business hours and sometimes on short notice. NQA1, glovebox systems, electrical, and manufacturing experience are a plus.

Required Education and Experience: B.S Degree in an engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited college or university and 3 years of applicable progressive experience. Degree may be substituted for experience.

Clearance and Health Regiments: Q Clearance preferred but at a minimum must have the ability to qualify for a Q clearance. Criminal Background Check. Pre-placement Drug Screening.
