Professor And Director Of The School Of Applied Engineering And Technology (SAET)

NJIT invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of the School of Applied Engineering and Technology (SAET). This is a Professor-level appointment for a candidate with a strong record in engineering education, academic leadership, and academic program development. The Director will position SAET as a leader in engineering education, and guide SAET's continued growth in applied engineering, workforce readiness, and innovation.

The successful candidate will lead efforts to expand SAET's graduate programs, with a focus on applied, interdisciplinary, and engineering education research, and raise SAET's national profile in engineering technology, and engineering education and pedagogy.

The person is expected to work effectively in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment both within the school and college, and across the broader campus to:

  • Provide strategic leadership to advance SAET's academic and research missions.
  • Position SAET as a leader in engineering education.
  • Strengthen partnerships with industry, government, and educational institutions.
  • Expand SAET's graduate programs in applied and interdisciplinary research.
  • Raise SAET's visibility in national forums for engineering education and pedagogy.
  • Facilitate a research environment in the school with active collaborations with academia, industry, and government agencies.
  • Foster excellence in teaching, curriculum development, and scholarly activity.
  • Lead accreditation efforts and ensure continuous program recognition and improvement.
  • Promote and support continued professional growth of faculty and staff and oversee recruitment of outstanding faculty and retention of faculty, staff, and students.
  • Represent SAET to the university administration, other university units, industry, and to public and private agencies at the local, regional, national, and international levels.

Candidates should be familiar with a substantial subset of current and emerging research areas, such as:

  • AI-enhanced learning environments (e.g., intelligent tutoring systems, adaptive platforms).
  • Engineering epistemologies and student learning outcomes.
  • Project-based and experiential learning models.
  • Assessment and analytics for student success.
  • Ethics and human-centered design in engineering education.
  • Technology-enhanced curriculum development.

Candidates should be able to demonstrate: record of scholarly achievement and leadership sufficient for appointment as a tenured Full Professor. This qualification normally requires a Ph.D. degree from a recognized institution and a body of scholarly work in a field within STEM, preferably an engineering discipline. Demonstrated expertise and track record in engineering education and its application in higher education. Proven ability to secure external funding for academic projects, and lead teams of researchers in their successful implementation. Significant experience and commitment for teaching, which include: familiarity with curriculum innovation and technology-enhanced learning environments. Experience with program accreditation and course-level assessment. Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, and administrators.

Industry experience, either as a practitioner or consultant. A professional license (such as P.E. in an engineering discipline). Experience with experiential learning programs and workforce development.

The salary range for this position is $120,000.00-$175,000.00 (USD). NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses or other items.
