Assistant or Associate Professor of Robotics Engineering
The Newark College of Engineering (NCE) at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) invites applications and nominations for the position of Professor of Robotics Engineering.
We are seeking candidates at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor on a tenure track. The successful candidate will be appointed in the department within NCE that aligns best with the candidate's expertise, and may hold a joint appointment across multiple departments as appropriate.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a record of outstanding scholarship, experience in research and development of robotic systems, and knowledge and interest in the underlying theory and practice of robotics design. We are also seeking candidates with genuine interest in education, ready and excited about guiding students to develop, build and test robots as part of the students' academic training.
The successful candidate is expected to work effectively in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment both within NCE and across the broader campus.
Essential Functions:
- Teaches, conducts research, and develops technology related to contemporary robots.
- Supports and leads the design, testing and operation of robotic systems.
- Solicits and secures research funding (and support for robotic infrastructure) from governmental bodies and industry.
- Initiates and leads research projects; publishes the results in peer-reviewed journals and presents findings in leading conferences on robotics and related areas.
- Delivers lectures, workshops, design courses, and research projects in robotics and related areas.
- Mentors student groups that participate in robotics competitions.
- Develops and adapts new teaching methods, tools, and curricula based on the latest research in robotics and robotics education.
- Leads the design and development of state-of-the-art infrastructure for robotic research and experimentation at NJIT.
- Collaborates with other professionals, academic researchers, and organizations focused on robotics and related fields.
Prerequisite Qualifications:
- Candidates whose credentials are suitable for the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor.
- Educational background in robotics or closely related areas.
- A record of outstanding research in a pertinent area is required, along with a footprint in the technical literature that is commensurate with candidate's rank and length of experience.
- Candidates are expected to have participated in the design, building and testing of relevant physical systems (e.g., robots, drones, AUVs).
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching, with a commitment to high-quality instruction.
- Superior communication skills as well as excellent writing capabilities.
- A doctorate degree in a pertinent STEM field is required by the appointment start date.
- Candidates with substantial academic training in robotics (design, hands-on construction and testing) are preferred.
Bargaining Unit: PSA
Salary Information: In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Law, the salary range for the assistant level position is $85,000-$125,000 and the associate level position is $100,000-$125,000. (USD). NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses or other items.
