We are looking for a Product Line Chief Research Engineer (PLCRE) for the RF, Electronics, Cyber (R3) product line within FAST Labs. R3 is the premier provider of advanced radio frequency electronic warfare, microelectronics, and cyber solutions. These solutions are advanced by constant innovation in mission applications, algorithms, integration approaches, and materials. The R3 PLCRE reports to the FAST Labs Chief Engineer and leads the engineering efforts across the product line in support of FAST labs technology research and development across all phases of research project evolution. This leadership includes supporting the establishment, planning, and execution of technology maturation strategies and engineering research and development approaches. The R3 PLCRE guides the application of appropriate engineering rigor and risk-taking naturally associated with advanced R&D, and ensures appropriate technology transition planning for product implementation in the receiving Business Area. Their direct reports include both project engineering managers (PEMs) and research engineers, and their extended team draws as needed from the deep discipline-specific skills provided through the Systems, Software and Hardware functional engineering groups. Together this engineering team partners with FAST Labs scientists to conceive, develop, and mature advanced technologies that solve the most challenging problems.

Specific job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as research engineering focal point for all activity within the Product Line portfolio of programs, including strategic planning, bid and proposal support for engineering content, engineering strategy and integrated plans on programs, engineering staffing, issue reporting, and risk and opportunity management
  • Partner and collaborate with their Product Line Director and the associated scientists, Tech Area, and functional leads to ensure business/program goals, requirements, and needs are understood and achieved
  • Recruit, train, develop, mentor and retain Project Engineering Managers (PEMs) and Research Engineers to meet FAST Labs' technology maturation needs
  • Perform supervisory duties in alignment with the business, administering communications, performance, compensation and recognition programs in alignment with business needs, values, and budgets
  • Provide timely and accurate staffing and resource forecasts, supporting the efforts of the engineering design disciplines to acquire and satisfy staffing needs
  • Ensure preparation, review and approval of competitive engineering bids that are executable, meet established price-to-win targets, and cover defined work scope
  • Tailor and apply required and appropriate FAST Labs Engineering process based on the size, scope, complexity, and risk of projects
  • Ensure project and product safety are managed in accordance with company policies, procedures, processes, and best practices.

  • Provide coordination among all stakeholders to ensure all necessary reviews are conducted and approvals are received

Because this role involves a combination of collaborative/in-person and independent work, it will take the form of a hybrid work format. A large portion of the time will be spent working on-site; with a smaller portion allowed remotely. To allow employees to balance their work and personal lives, we offer flexible 9/80 work schedules, where employees work nine-hour days with every other Friday off within a two-week pay period.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills:

  • Strong domain knowledge in one or more technologies and capabilities relevant to R3 (e.g. RFEW, microelectronics, cyber solutions, materials science)
  • Strong engineering discipline knowledge across core engineering disciplines of Systems, Software, Hardware, Microelectronics
  • Active Top Secret security clearance and eligible to obtain and maintain SAP/SCI accesses
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field and 12 years technical experience (MS and 10 years preferred)
  • 10 years technical / engineering leadership experience including performance management, coaching, mentoring and inspiring a technical staff with diverse experience, technical views, and individual differences
  • Proactive attitude and ability to be productive in a dynamic / collaborative / uncertain environment
  • Experience with new business acquisition including competitive proposals
  • Proven ability to share and transfer technology across organizational boundaries to the benefit of customers and the business

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $169630 - $288370

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
