Investigator – Arizona Medical Board

Location: Phoenix, AZ Schedule: In-office during training; Hybrid schedule (3 days remote / 2 days in office) after successful completion of training

Position Summary

The Arizona Medical Board is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Investigator to conduct investigations involving allopathic physicians and physician assistants licensed in Arizona. This role focuses on quality-of-care allegations and unprofessional conduct, including criminal convictions, substance abuse, and other sensitive matters. This position functions similarly to a high-volume paralegal or case manager role and requires strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review complaints, determine allegations, and draft notice letters to respondents
  • Communicate with complainants and respondents regarding case status
  • Identify and request relevant medical records and supporting documentation (including subpoenas)
  • Organize and review medical records for investigative relevance
  • Conduct interviews with respondents, complainants, patients, and witnesses
  • Interpret and apply federal and state statutes, rules, and policies
  • Prepare investigative reports and case summaries
  • Present cases before the Arizona Medical Board
  • Testify before the Office of Administrative Hearings when required
  • Conduct site inspections when necessary
  • Manage multiple cases at various stages of the investigative process
  • Maintain detailed case notes and provide status updates as needed
  • Respond to inquiries from Medical Consultants

  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate investigations effectively
