MH Support Specialist

MH Support Specialist provides direct care, advocacy, and case management to individuals with mental health or substance use disorders. Key duties include conducting assessments, implementing treatment plans, facilitating team meetings, and coordinating services, often requiring NC Certification as a Peer Support Specialist or a qualified professional in mental health.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

• Direct Support: Acts as a mentor and role model, utilizing personal or professional experience to empower individuals, foster recovery, and reduce stigma.
• Case Management & Coordination: Helps clients navigate the mental health system, connects them with resources (housing, employment, financial services), and manages a caseload.
• Clinical Collaboration: Collaborates with clinicians and crisis responders to support individuals, including potential 24/7 crisis management.
• Documentation: Maintains accurate, timely records of all contacts, services, and progress in compliance with regulations.
• Community/Team Support: Participates in Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) meetings, staffings, and training.

Common Job Requirements

• Certification: Frequently requires NC Certified Peer Support Specialist credentials.
• Education/Experience: Often requires a combination of human services experience and mental health training.
• Skills: Strong communication, empathy, advocacy skills, and knowledge of the recovery process.
