District 1 Supervisor

The Department of Motor Vehicles seeks an experienced and motivated leader to be our next District 1 Supervisor. The District Supervisor, under administrative direction, is responsible for providing outstanding customer focused services in the metro Omaha area including Burt, Douglas, Dodge, Sarpy, and Washington Counties. This position leads and supports a team of dedicated staff, helping them provide excellent service to the people of Nebraska. The role includes guiding and evaluating team performance, offering feedback, and ensuring that work is carried out efficiently and with a customer-first mindset. This position works under the general supervision of the Motor Vehicle Driver Licensing Services Manager, while also exercising independent judgment in day-to-day activities. The individual in this role will follow all laws, regulations, policies, and procedures, ensuring that services are delivered with integrity, consistency, and respect for the public. Along with team leadership, this position may take on other assignments as needed to support the overall success of Driver Licensing Services. Every task, big or small, contributes to making the licensing process easier, friendlier, and more efficient for our customers. Job location is: Metro Omaha and Burt, Douglas, Dodge, Sarpy, and Washington Counties.

  • Lead and support a team of district employees by hiring, training, scheduling, and providing performance feedback.
  • Oversee daily district operations, ensuring customers receive efficient, accurate, and friendly service.
  • Use reporting tools and lobby management systems to evaluate workloads and improve service delivery.
  • Recommend staffing, scheduling, and process improvements, and present plans to management for consideration.
  • Conduct audits to maintain compliance and high-quality service.
  • Ensure all district operations follow local, state, and federal driver licensing laws and regulations.
  • Hold regular staff meetings and provide guidance to keep teams informed and aligned.
  • Collaborate with county officials and other partners on driver licensing policies and procedures.
  • Investigate and resolve customer complaints and assist with escalated issues.
  • Manage and deliver supplies to licensing stations within the district.
  • Represent DMV at community events, workshops, and public speaking opportunities.
  • Step in to perform duties of Assistant District Supervisor or Driver License Examiner when needed.
  • Oversee and ensure compliance of state vehicles assigned to the district.

Requirements / Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: Three years' driver licensing experience or coursework/training or experience in business administration, management, or related field; experience working with the public in customer service or working with motor vehicle laws; experience in supervision including employee performance evaluation or program evaluation.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of: Leadership techniques and effective team management, State statutes, motor vehicle laws, and related rules and regulations, Safe driving practices and procedures, Department policies and operating procedures, Coordination of people, resources, and schedules, Training and instructional methods for individuals and groups, Principles of teamwork, communication, and group dynamics, Common office computer hardware and software applications

Skills in: Clear and effective communication, both written and verbal, Public speaking and presentations, Active listening and understanding, Problem-solving and decision-making, Conflict resolution and customer service

Ability to: Supervise, plan, organize, and assign work to staff, Monitor performance and provide constructive feedback, Build and maintain cooperative relationships with local officials, other agencies, coworkers, and the public, Interpret and explain statutes, rules, regulations, and policies related to driver licensing and vehicle operation, Work collaboratively in a team environment and remain effective under pressure
